Awards Banquet

My good friend J.D. Adamson, sister to Big John Wood, informed me that John was honored with Racemaster of the Year at the recent Firebird Awards Banquet. Outstanding, John! Congratulations!

I excerpted this from Firebird's site:
"The 41st edition of the Firebird Award’s Banquet officially brought the 2008 NHRA Drag Racing Season to a close on Saturday night, November 22nd. Held in the ballroom of the DoubleTree Riverside in Boise, the banquet featured an evening packed with awards, which included upwards of $15,000 in cash and prizes.

One of the highlights of the evening was the 23rd presentation of the Racemaster award. John Wood, Nampa, was acknowledged for this very special Firebird Hall of Fame type award. Wood is the leader of the mighty Melba Outlaws club, the 12-time Silver Cup club champions."

Here's to all the Melba Outlaws an outstanding club...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Friends of Outlaws

We wanted to say a great big THANK YOU! to the friends and extended family of the Outlaws who came out to help on Friday. I don't know who all of you are, but I do know Kim Moon filled in for Rob Keys after Rob took a tumble off his bike and messed up his collar bone, not to mention the unknown damage the concussion caused. (Just kidding Rob, we know you're still semi-normal).

I also heard Randy Williamson has a couple of sons up from California who helped us out, Neal and John. I hope that's right.

Thanks to all the Outlaws and all the Friends of the Outlaws. We really had a great night of racing. Let's be sure and leave them all with dust in their mouths on September 12 to finish the season!

YAHOO!! Dagonit!

I LOVE this team! When it's "do or die" time EVERYBODY shows up and gives it their all!

The last unofficial count I heard had the Melba Outlaws 138 points ahead of PSI Racing. The Naughty Girls sure put on a show. I didn't hear the count for 3rd, but they are not far behind PSI. What a fun night of racing.

One thing I do know for sure, Bryce Perkins takes the 1st place trophy for Bracket 3!
Congratulations, Bryce!

I will get all of the photos and the official stats online when I get them. In the meantime, we have one more race to bring it all home again. Let's carry this enthusiasm on and remember:

"WE CAME, WE SAW, WE KICKED THEIR ASS!"

Are we ready?

Yes, it's here already. Race number 5 is upon us this Friday. I'm sure every Outlaw in the valley is chompin' at the bit to get out there and rectify this sorrowful situation! We're gonna need everyone of our Outlaws there in full glory... It will be excitin', that is for sure!

Just a Note...

Some of the Outlaws have begun putting the Club Letter on the driver's side window. This makes it easier for those of us in the grandstands to identify all the drivers we want and need to be rooting for. The announcing can be quite "spotty" to say the least, and we don't all know who all the Outlaws are. So, for those of you who haven't heard, we would sure appreciate it if you would help us out by adding the big letter "E" to your driver's side window. Thanks a bunch!

P.S.
I've changed the blog format so you no longer have to jump through hoops to comment. So, please do! I need the feedback. Thanks again!

Oh Boy...

After seeing the first four races of the night turn into disappointment for the Outlaws, it looked to be a long night ahead. And it did prove to be. More red-lighting than we can remember in recent showdowns, it looked like the Outlaws were overly anxious to knock down some more wins.

Lynn Johnston makes it to the quarter-finals, while Walt Templeton and Roger Squire make it to the semi's. Good Job!

PSI Racing had a killer night of racing, with 2 in the winner's circle and one runner up, they take over the lead by 13 points. They obviously came to race. The Naughty Girls also came to race, climbing to within 91 points of the Outlaws.

So, it looks like the Outlaws will have to put on their racin' faces August 1st and bring all their guns to bear!

Race #3

It certainly looked like the Melba Outlaws had their hands full with The Naughty Girls in Race 3. Those girls are out to take control. But fortunately, with the like s of Outlaws like Roger Squire, Bryce Perkins and Eric Edvalson, the gap between first and second has increased again. The weather was beautiful, the fans were great and the racing was fantastic! See you at Race 4!

Results and points standings will be posted as soon as they come in. For now, this is a photo of Steve Olson and Paul Maiden during a practice run. Sometimes, the practice runs are more fun than the real thing!

And so it Begins

The News and Firebird Raceway put on their usual Spring pizzafest for the Club Champions last night. What a fest it was. Besides pizza, the menu included antipasto, salad, lasagne and fettuccini alfredo! The event was held at Louie's in Meridian. What a nice facility. Everyone had a wonderful time. It was good to meet up and swap old racing stories, see some faces we only see during race season, and get excited about the new season. It was time well spent.....

2008 Season Begins

May 2nd is the season opener for Fairly Reliable Bob's Club Challenge. After a long wet winter, race fans are ready for a little sunshine, fresh air and excitement! This season looks to be another fast-paced explosive shootout. Will Mopars Unlimited be gearing up to try and knock the Outlaws off of top position one more time? I think possibly, with PSI Racing, Naughty Girls and Middleton Crew hot on their heels!

See you at the track, race fans!
